If you are thinking about visiting Crested Butte, Colorado there are a lot of great hotels in the area. Whether you are looking for a ski in/ski out mountain resort or a cozy boutique hotel, there is something for everyone.
When Vail Resorts took over Crested Butte in 2018, they did an excellent job leaving the ski area largely untouched. This allowed people to appreciate the resort more.
1. Lodge at Mountaineer Square
Located in Crested Butte’s ski resort base area, the Lodge at Mountaineer Square is a luxurious lodging option. Suited to couples and families alike, guests can choose from a wide range of accommodations from studio rooms and one to four bedroom condos.
The 83 guestrooms feature LCD televisions, complimentary WiFi and premium bedding options. Each features a private bathroom with a shower/tub combination and designer toiletries.
The property also offers a 24-hour front desk, concierge/bell/valet, heated indoor/outdoor pool and outdoor hot tub, sauna and fitness center. Other amenities include a hotel shuttle, town bus access, heated underground parking (fee charged), ski valet and complimentary ski and bicycle storage.
2. Grand Lodge
The Grand Lodge is a great choice for those who want to spend some time on the slopes, but still have access to shopping and dining in town. It’s located right next to the ski lifts and offers free shuttle service to Old Town Crested Butte.
This property has 229 rooms and features a fitness center, indoor pool, and a snack bar/deli. Rooms are equipped with iPod docking stations and LCD televisions.
The hotel also provides a ski valet, so you don’t have to carry your equipment from the base of the mountain. It also has a games room and four movie theaters.
3. Plaza Condominiums
The Plaza Condominiums are located just 100 yards from the main Silver Queen lift and offer a perfect base for your ski vacation. Their two and three bedroom furnished apartments are comfortable, have full kitchens, fireplaces, private laundry, cable TV and free Wi-Fi.
Guests can also enjoy the onsite amenities, including indoor and outdoor hot tubs, sauna, steam room, tennis courts, Iron Horse Tap restaurant and bar, daily housekeeping and covered parking.
The Plaza Condominiums are a short walk from Mountaineer Square, and just a few minutes away from Elk Avenue and downtown Crested Butte. During your stay, you can take advantage of the year-round free shuttle bus to get into town and on to the slopes.
4. The Inn at Crested Butte
Crested Butte is the perfect year-round mountain destination for skiers and hikers. It’s known for its gorgeous scenery, rich history and lack of crowds.
There are several lodging options in town, including small lodges, inns and bed and breakfasts. Most are within walking distance of downtown, where you can find shops, bars and restaurants.
You can also stay in Gunnison, which is about 30 miles north of Crested Butte. Most of the hotels in Gunnison are traditional chain hotels, while some of them have cabins and hookups for RVs and trailers. The town has a free bus system that makes it easy to get around.
5. Purple Mountain Lodge
Located within walking distance to Elk Avenue, Crested Butte’s National Historic District and the free town bus shuttle to the base area of Mount Crested Butte Resort, Purple Mountain Bed and Breakfast is one of the premier settings to experience “Colorado’s last great ski town.”
They offer a number of guestrooms that have unique mountain decor. Rooms include a 32 inches LCD TV, private bath with tub and shower, plush bathrobes, Egyptian cotton linens and towels, dual vanities and access to the outdoor hot tub.
There are also special touches that make this place unique, including afternoon craft beer tastings, slope side ski storage and a Ghirardelli hot chocolate bar. Guests are invited to enjoy the complimentary gourmet breakfast with fresh, locally sourced ingredients each morning.
