Salida, Colorado is a beautiful, colorful, and vibrant town with a unique culture. It is a four-season adventure destination located in the mountains of Southwest Colorado. The Arkansas River is one of America’s most popular outdoor recreation areas. There are a variety of activities for you to enjoy including kayaking, fishing, whitewater rafting, standup paddleboarding, and much more. The river is also a great spot to go rock climbing. If you’re a fan of fishing, there’s plenty of fish available in the Arkansas River.

Monarch Mountain, which is located near Salida, offers a ski resort and snowshoeing. For a different way to experience the mountain, you can try a dog sled ride. They offer tours that are suitable for all ages and skill levels. A tour includes an introduction to harnessing dogs, as well as a day or nighttime sled ride.

Another unique activity is the Spiral Drive in Salida. The drive is 1.7 miles long, and the road spirals out of town, offering stunning views of Salida and the surrounding mountain ranges. The drive is very easy to hike, bike, or sled, and your dog is welcome to join you. At the end of the drive, you can take a scenic tour of a former fire lookout station.

Throughout the year, there are a variety of events in the area. Some of them include the second Saturday Gallery Art Tour, which features artists’ receptions, as well as openings. On the weekend of Memorial Day, there’s the Bluegrass on the Arkansas Festival. Other events include the Salida Riverside Arts and Music Festival, which features local artists on the riverfront.
