Snowmass Colorado Winter Activities

Snowmass Colorado Winter Activities

There are no shortage of things to do in Snowmass Colorado during the winter. From alpine skiing and snowboarding to cross-country skiing, dog sledding, tubing and ice skating, there is something for everyone!

Base Village, spruced up with 30 shops and 25 restaurants, is where you’ll find the action. Inside The Collective, a hub for community events, you’ll find several activities to keep you busy including a new lounge with live music and entertainment, arcade games, a large-scale coloring wall and ping pong!

Dog Sledding

A dogsled ride through the Snowmass wilderness is an unforgettable way to experience Colorado’s pristine backcountry. Dog sled tours depart daily from December through April.

Krabloonik, located slopeside in Snowmass Village on 4250 Divide Road near the Campground area of the ski resort, operates dog-sled rides that can carry two adults and a child on a 1.5-2 hour tour. A team of eight to ten Alaskan huskies pull the sleds with an experienced musher at the helm.

But the town of Snowmass Village is threatening to force dog-sledding company Krabloonik off its property by the end of October because the operation was not following the best practices plan that’s part of its lease agreement. The Aspen Times reports that Krabloonik owners Gina and Danny Phillips were not in compliance with the plan, and the town notified them last week that they would have to vacate by November 1.

Snow Tubing

Snow tubing is an excellent way to experience the thrill of winter without putting on skis or snowboarding equipment. This recreational activity is easy to learn and doesn’t require a lot of training or strength.

There are many types of snow tubes available to choose from. Some are made with a heavier gauge material that can resist cracks in the snow while others feature sturdy handles that can keep you safe even at low temperatures.

Whether you’re a solo rider or looking to share the fun with a friend, most tubing facilities offer single and double-sized tubes for two people to use at one time. Most also have gentle “magic carpet” lifts that make it easy to slide down a mountain and back up again.

Sleigh Rides

If you’re looking for a Snowmass Colorado Winter Activity that will give you a chance to see the town and enjoy the snow with your family or friends, consider taking a sleigh ride. Whether it’s a private or public tour, there are plenty of options for every age and interest.

Alternatively, you can enjoy the snow from the comfort of a snowcat. The infamous Cloud Nine in Aspen Highlands and Lynn Britt Cabin in Snowmass both offer mountain-top dinner sleigh rides that combine a delicious meal with breathtaking scenery.

A sleigh ride is the perfect way to spend an afternoon or evening during your trip to Snowmass. You can also opt for a starlit skies sleigh ride, which will give you a unique opportunity to view the stars in their full glory.

Winter Carriage Rides

A horse drawn sleigh ride in the snow is one of the most magical ways to spend an evening. It offers a romantic escape for couples, as well as a family-friendly adventure for everyone!

There are many sleigh rides to choose from, ranging from short day trips or long evening dinner excursions. Most sleigh rides offer private options as well so you can customize your experience to suit your needs.

Winter carriage rides are a popular Snowmass Colorado Winter Activity. They’re perfect for those who want to sightsee and visit local shops without a car.

Krabloonik and Redstone Outfitters both offer horse drawn sleigh rides throughout the winter months. There are also public sleigh rides available, though these are often booked up in advance.

Tubing Hill

Tubing is a great way to get your feet wet and your heart racing. And there are many places where you can do it under the lights!

Snowmass Mountain is home to multiple lift-served tubing lanes into The Meadows at Elk Camp. This is a fun place to take kids of all ages, especially during Ullr Nights and special holidays.

This tubing hill also has a Magic Carpet to take you back up the hill without all the hassle of walking up. They offer single and double tubes to rent, but children between the ages of three and six must ride with an adult in a separate tube.

If you’re looking for something a little different, Tube Howelsen is sure to be a hit. This is a fun and exciting way to spend an afternoon with your family.
