The Rocky Mountains are a place where you can find the magic of nature, the thrill of adventure and the pleasure of family and friends. Whether you’re seeking a ski vacation or a vacation to enjoy winter activities in Snowmass, there’s something for everyone.
Base Village’s community hub, The Collective, is bringing back a plethora of winter events this season, including a full schedule of off-the-slopes entertainment for all ages. From bingo to salsa dancing lessons and karaoke, The Collective looks to cultivate another season of fun off the slopes.
Dog Sledding
Dog sledding is a great way to see the Snowmass Colorado winter scenery. You can book a 1.5-2 hour dog sled ride that departs daily at nine am, eleven am, twelve pm and four pm.
The sled rides are led by experienced mushers who have a bonded relationship with the Alaskan Husky sled dogs. The sleds can accommodate two adults and a small child.
Guests are encouraged to take photos and videos of their dog sledding experience. The kennel also offers packages that include lunch or dinner at the on-site restaurant.
The sled ride is a great way to enjoy the mountain and its scenery while you are with a family. The sled riders will be led by an experienced musher and will be pulled by 8 to 10 happy dogs. The sled ride is sure to be an unforgettable experience!
Snow Tubing
If you’re looking for a fun winter activity for the whole family, snow tubing is the way to go. It’s an easy way to enjoy the outdoors in Colorado and is a great addition to your Colorado vacation.
Snow tubing involves riding an inner tube down a slope while being pulled down by gravity. Unlike skiing or snowboarding, it doesn’t require much skill and is more accessible to children.
The Snowmass tubing hill is located on-mountain at Snowmass Village. It features multiple lanes down the hill, plus a magic carpet to get you back to the top easily.
Ice Skating
During the winter season, Snowmass Colorado is a great place to ice skate. Originally originated in Scandinavia four millennia ago, ice skating is a fun and challenging sport that requires a great deal of coordination and focus.
Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned pro, learning how to ice skate can be one of the most rewarding experiences you’ll have on vacation. It releases endorphins in the brain, boosts your self-confidence and helps you to hone focus as you learn new moves like crossovers and spinning.
If you’re looking for an ice skating rink to try out, be sure to check out The Collective Snowmass located in the heart of the base village. This amazing entertainment hub boasts an outdoor ice skating rink, game lounge and more.
The Breathtaker Alpine Coaster
The Breathtaker Alpine Coaster is an exhilarating ride that winds its way through a mile of alpine forest at speeds of up to 28 mph. Located in Snowmass Village adjacent to the Elk Camp Restaurant, it operates during both winter and summer.
This ride is part of the Lost Forest, a multi-feature summer adventure park that features ponds to fish in, creekside hiking trails, two disc golf courses, biking trails and zip lines.
It’s a perfect addition to your adventure at Snowmass, especially during Ullr Nights when there are a number of fun activities to take part in, including the new Breathtaker Alpine Coaster! You can also grab a bite to eat at the adjacent Elk Camp Restaurant or head out on a tubing trip!
Snowmobiling
Snowmobiling is a great way to explore the backcountry of Aspen and Snowmass. There are plenty of local companies offering tours to scenic locations, including the Maroon Bells and Independence Pass.
It’s important to keep in mind that many of these trails aren’t snowmobile friendly and travel through dangerous avalanche terrain, so it’s best to do your research.
If you’re a beginner, guided tours are a good option, as are half-day and full-day self-guided excursions.
You should also remember that there are laws governing snowmobiling, so be sure to read them before you head out. Failure to obey these laws can result in penalties.
