Whether you’re a skier or not, there are plenty of exciting winter activities in Snowmass. You can sled, ice skate, go tubing, take a dog sled tour, or book a winter carriage ride.
For fun, thrilling breaks from skiing, head to the alpine coaster on Snowmass Mountain or multiple lift-served tubing lanes at Elk Camp. You’ll get gorgeous views of the mountains.
Sleigh Rides
Sleigh rides are a great way to get outside and enjoy the winter weather. They are also a unique and fun way to spend time with family or friends.
There are many different options for sleigh rides in Snowmass Colorado, including horse-drawn rides and public sleigh rides. The average ride lasts around twenty minutes.
A family-friendly sleigh ride is a fun and memorable experience for all ages. You and your group can stop trail-side to roast marshmallows or sip on a cup of hot chocolate!
You can also try a dog sled ride that takes you into the pristine Snowmass backcountry. This popular activity is led by a musher and 8-10 Alaskan Husky sled dogs.
Ice Skating
One of the highlights of visiting Snowmass Base Village is its ice skating rink. It is open daily from noon to 9pm, and both ice skating and skate rentals are free.
The rink is located adjacent to the Limelight Hotel in the Snowmass Base Village Plaza. This outdoor rink is a great place to spend time with the family while enjoying hot chocolate and a drink.
While there, you can also rent an ice bumper car or try curling. There is even a DJ at the ice rink on Saturdays!
If you want a more socially distanced activity, then the Limelight Hotel also has an indoor climbing wall. They also have a video camera atop the hotel that shows roundshot images of the slopes and ski areas throughout Snowmass.
Tubing
Snow tubing is a fun way to enjoy Colorado’s pristine winter conditions without the need for ski equipment. It’s a great option for families, couples, and friends of all ages.
There are several great snow tubing hills in the Colorado Mountains, including Keystone Nordic Center, Copper Mountain, and Frisco Adventure Park. They all offer varying degrees of steepness and features like chutes, rolls, bumps, and banked turns to keep you entertained.
At Snowmass Colorado, multiple lift-served lanes provide plenty of traction and excitement on the slopes at the top of the Elk Camp Gondola. Plus, lighted evening sessions are available during Friday Ullr Nights festivities.
Dogsled Tours
Dogsled Tours are one of the best ways to explore Snowmass Colorado’s winter scenery. The tours take guests through the beautiful mountains of Aspen and Snowmass on state-of-the-art sleds pulled by eight to ten trained Alaskan huskies under the guidance of an experienced musher.
Krabloonik Fine Dining and Dog Sledding offers morning, afternoon and twilight tours that can carry two adults and a child. The 1.5-2 hour tours take riders through pristine wilderness areas.
The operation has been a fixture in Snowmass since the late Dan MacEachen opened it after receiving county approval in 1974. It drew people for its restaurant’s game menu and sled-dog rides pulled by Alaskan huskies under a musher’s guidance.
Winter Carriage Rides

Several outfitters in the area offer scenic mountain sleigh rides or evening rides with dinner and entertainment. They are the perfect way to end a day of skiing or snowboarding, and offer an unforgettable Colorado experience for everyone.
Public sleigh rides last around twenty minutes, while private sleighs can be booked for a longer time if you’d like. You’ll get to see the pristine winter landscapes of Stillwater Ranch as you’re pulled along by a team of draft horses.
