Elk Camp

The mountain getaway at Elk Camp in Snowmass Colorado is a winter wonderland. This family-friendly resort features tubing, ice skating, s’mores, and snowshoe tours. There’s also an alpine rollercoaster that zips through a treetop forest. You can even play disc golf.

Elk Camp Gondola is an easy 14-minute ride from Base Village to the top of Snowmass Mountain. It also offers spectacular views of the mountain. From there, you can access hiking and biking trails.

For your dining needs, there’s the Elk Camp Restaurant. You’ll find a variety of house-made, organic selections on the menu. Plus, there’s a panini station and a bakery, too. If you’re looking for a cozy spot for a lunch, you’ll love the fireplace inside. Guests can also enjoy an outdoor dining area and yard games.

Cross-Country Ski and Snowshoe center

Snowmass is the perfect place to cross country ski or snowshoe. It offers access to Aspen and Snowmass Mountain. There are many different Nordic Centers and shops to choose from.

The Snowmass Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe Center is open daily from December through March. It is a full service center with lessons, rentals and tours. Located on Snowmass Golf Course, the center offers over six miles of Nordic trails.

In addition to the ski trails, the center also has a retail shop, a snack bar, and a restaurant. You can rent equipment, sign up for a group lesson, or even hire an instructor.

If you’re planning to go skiing, make sure you have a First Aid Kit and plenty of water. Cross country skiing is a great way to get your blood pumping and your lungs working.

Breathtaker Alpine Coaster

The Breathtaker Alpine Coaster is the perfect combination of nature and adrenaline. The mountain coaster has been gaining popularity in recent years. It combines the speed of a roller coaster with the views of an alpine forest.

A Breathtaker ride is the perfect activity for families with children, teens, or anyone looking for an exhilarating adventure. This thrill ride is part of the $10 million on-mountain adventure center at Snowmass.

The Breathtaker Alpine Coaster starts with a 2:30 minute cable-pulled ascent. It follows a forest track that reaches speeds of 28 mph. As the ride progresses, the roller coaster drops 400 vertical feet.

There are no stops along the track. Riders are allowed two passengers per sled. However, the total weight cannot exceed 375 lbs in wet or dry conditions.

Dogsled tours

Dogsled tours in Snowmass Colorado are a great way to enjoy the winter season. The vast snowy expanses and pristine wilderness are a spectacular backdrop for your adventure. You can choose between an all day tour that will take you into the Gunnison National Forest or an afternoon dog sled ride.

Krabloonik Dogsledding has been a fixture in the town of Snowmass since 1976. It offers three sled rides per day, each of which lasts two hours. Each tour includes a mid-ride campfire break and an apres ski.

Guests are encouraged to help harness the dogs. They will also get a chance to learn more about the sport of mushing.

Krabloonik Dogsledding was originally owned by Dan MacEachen and is located on 4250 Divide Road in the Campground area of Snowmass. Since 2014, the kennel has been owned by the Phillips family.

Fitness in Snowmass for non-skiers

If you’re not a skier, you’ll be happy to know that there are plenty of ways to get active in Snowmass Colorado. From a free community ice skating rink to an interactive music wall, there’s something for everyone here.

Whether you’re looking for a winter daytrip, or a long weekend, there are a plethora of options. For example, the Aspen Snowmass Nordic Trail System has 60 miles of free cross country ski trails that connect the town of Aspen, the town of Snowmass, and the town of Basalt. There are also plenty of snowshoeing and fat biking options available in the area.

The Snowmass Recreation Center is the perfect place for non-skiers to get some exercise. In addition to an apres-ski, the center offers three saline outdoor pools, an indoor rock climbing gym, a sledding hill, and even an ice skating rink.
