Snowmass Colorado – World Class Skiing and Non-Ski Activities

Snowmass offers everything from mellow beginner slopes to wide open groomed cruisers for intermediate skiers to a large array of double black runs that can challenge even the most advanced skiers.

Located just 20 minutes from Aspen, the town of Snowmass feels like a world class destination but celebrates good old fashioned fun. This is an ideal family destination year round!

Winter

Snowmass Village is a mountain town with a small town feel. It is a tight knit community of 2,800 full time residents nestled only 9 miles from the world famous ski town of Aspen, Colorado. Snowmass is home to a small but impressive ski area, as well as a number of fun non-ski activities.

During the winter, take advantage of the abundant snow with fun outdoor adventures that don’t require pristine powder like ice skating, snowboarding and snowshoeing. If you are new to these sports, consider booking a guided tour with Ute Mountaineer or SunDog Athletic. You can also try your hand at the newest snowsport, airboarding!

There is also a great selection of dining options in the village. Fuel Cafe is a local favorite for coffee and breakfast, while Mix 6 is a restaurant with multiple cuisines that can accommodate most dietary restrictions. If you want to socialize after skiing or boarding, head over to The Collective for a self-described “game lounge and selfie den.” There are yard games and a splash pad in the summer, and an ice rink in the winter.

A highlight of the season is the Snowmass Winter X Games, a celebration of extreme winter sports hosted in mid-January. The gondola is free for the event, so be sure to arrive early and bring your camera.

Summer

The same beautiful mountain views that make Snowmass Colorado world class in winter, come alive in summer. This quaint mountain village becomes a place to reconnect with what matters most: the magnificence of nature, the thrill of adventure and the joy of family and friends.

Snowmass is known for its world-class skiing, but it’s also a top mountain biking destination with impeccably maintained trails across lift-served and cross-country terrain, easy access to rentals, group and private bike lessons, and a contagious love of the sport. In fact, it’s one of the few places in the country with an IMBA Gold Level Ride Center.

The mountain’s wild side comes to life in summer with hiking and mountain biking trails that lead you to secluded lakes, verdant valleys and soaring peaks. Then head back to the village for al fresco dining, open air concerts, festivals, a renowned arts center and a genuine Western rodeo.

Summertime in Snowmass means something new each day. Take a trip up the Elk Camp Gondola or Elk Camp Chair for breathtaking mountain views or visit The Lost Forest, an immersive area with a huge variety of outdoor recreation and add-on experiences that are sure to suit all ages. And don’t miss the annual Fourth of July parade, the free outdoor concert series and other big events throughout the season.

Fall

Snowmass is known for its powder days but the area offers so much more year-round. Situated among breathtaking peaks and verdant valleys, the village serves as a nature’s playground with 80 miles of hiking trails, impeccably maintained mountain biking terrain, Gold Medal Waters for fly fishing and rafting, and views that will take your breath away.

During the fall, Snowmass’s pristine trails come alive with color as the leaves on surrounding mountains shed their green “mask” to reveal yellows, golds, oranges and reds. The Roaring Fork River and surrounding lakes and ponds are home to trout that are ready for your fly rod. Whether you’re an independent angler or prefer a guided experience, there are a number of companies in town who offer a variety of services.

Every week during the ski season, Snowmass hosts Ullr Nights at Elk Camp. A free event, this fun nighttime adventure involves taking the gondola right out of Limelight and enjoying dinner on the slopes, tubing and rides on the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster. The event takes place in a large space that also has multiple fire pits, an outdoor spa and ice skating rink in the winter. The entire experience is a great way for skiers and snowboarders to meet each other and enjoy the outdoors in Snowmass.
