Steamboat Spring Winter Activities
Skiing is a major attraction in Steamboat Springs, but there are plenty of other fun activities that don’t involve the slopes.
Steamboat is a Western town, and that means it’s home to lots of country music events. You can find more than 20 bands at Winter Wondergrass in early March.
Ice Bumper Cars
The fun of riding a bumper car is taken to a whole new level when you ride one on ice. Bumper cars on ice are a great way to add excitement to your ice rink or make a winter party more memorable!
Each car has an electric motor that turns two wheels underneath it. The wheels have special, custom-made rubber tires that provide traction but won’t damage the ice surface.
During the ride, passengers control the vehicle with a pair of joysticks. They can move forward, backward, turn, or spin.
These bumper cars are a lot safer than traditional ones that are connected to the power supply and directly drive them with electricity. Because they separate the battery from the fixed power source, they can avoid contact with the electricity and reduce the risk of electric shock accidents.
Escape Room
An escape room is a game where players are “locked” into a themed room and must solve riddles, puzzles, and find clues in order to “escape”. Teams of two to eight people can play an escape room.
It is a challenging yet fun activity. It encourages teamwork, and focuses on communication as a group.
A great way to spend a sunny day with your family or friends! If you aren’t familiar with an escape room, it’s an hour-long game that involves finding clues, solving puzzles, and completing tasks.
Dog Sledding
Dog sledding is an amazing way to experience Steamboat’s beautiful backcountry trails. There are two local companies, Grizzle-T and Snow Buddy, that offer a variety of tours for riders of all ages and abilities!
You can learn to drive your own team of Alaskan huskies, or you can go as a passenger on a guided tour. Grizzle-T offers half-day adventures that travel through Dunckley Pass in the Little Flat Tops, deep in the Routt National Forest!
These dogs are a special breed and rely on strength and endurance to travel the distances needed. They also need to be able to handle the cold and icy temperatures, which are common in winter.
Dinner at Aurum Food & Wine
Aurum Food & Wine is a great place to dine during your Steamboat Springs vacation. Their beautiful riverfront location provides guests with a wonderful dining experience with views of the Yampa River.
During winter, they offer fully heated yurts that can accommodate parties of up to eight people. Each yurt comes equipped with a lantern that allows you to signal your server as you dine.
You’ll also want to make a stop at Steamboat’s breweries, wineries and distilleries. These places will be serving seasonal brews and wines that can pair well with a delicious meal back at your rental!
Horseback Riding
Riding a horse is one of the most exciting ways to spend time in Steamboat Springs. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned rider, there are many scenic trails in the area to explore on horseback.
Another benefit of horseback riding is its ability to reduce stress. It is an effective way to exercise and calm your mind and body, as well as strengthen your social skills and relationships.
Riding also teaches you how to communicate with your mount, which is a skill that can be transferred to many other activities. Various natural and artificial aids are used, including voice, movement of hands on the reins, legs and heels, and use of the back.
