Sunlight Ski Area Lodging

Sunlight Mountain is a great choice for anyone looking for a place to ski in Colorado. The mountain is located in Glenwood Springs and has a unique mix of trails. This is a family oriented resort, but with enough terrain to keep the experts satisfied as well. Those interested in the best of both worlds can enjoy skiing and boarding on the slopes as well as exploring the surrounding forests.

The ski area at Sunlight is an easy day trip from downtown Glenwood Springs. It is a thirty-minute drive from the town’s center. There are no parking tickets to purchase and the lifts are free of charge. A shuttle will get you up and moving by 9:00 a.m.

The base lodge at Sunlight has all the necessities. There are indoor and outdoor seating areas as well as a simple cafeteria. The base also has a bar. On the slopes, there are two chairlifts, as well as a number of other options, including a rope tow. In addition, there are three rental shops, a ski shop and a snazzy looking restaurant.

Another great feature is the base lodge’s hot springs pool. If you’re not a fan of the outdoors, you can spend your days relaxing in the indoor tubs. For more relaxation, you can book a room at a local hotel. Or you could opt for one of the many vacation rental homes available. The resort even offers a few condos that are ski in/ski out.

Sunlight Mountain has a little something for everyone, from the gimmick aficionados to the novice. Among the highlights are the 67 trails that make up the ski area, including some of the state’s best tree skiing. The slopes are not as steep as some other mountain resorts, but they are still a blast to ski and ride. Guests are also treated to the benefits of being in a national forest. Not to mention, the mountain boasts a whopping 250 inches of snow per year.

While Sunlight has a modest vertical, it has a handful of notable runs that have a great name. One of the runs, the Ute, is a two mile stretch with a 2.5 g, which is impressive for a ski area in this part of the country.

A trip to Sunlight is a worthwhile excursion, and it will not break the bank. Whether you are staying at a hotel in the heart of the action or one of the many cabins and condos, you are sure to have an excellent time. Whether you are in the market for a romantic escape, a family holiday or a raucous reunion, there is sure to be something to suit your needs.

While it is not the biggest or the best, the Sunlight Ski Area is a worthy stop on your next winter sports trip. With a good mix of terrain, a snazzy name and a nice looking ski area, you won’t be disappointed. You’ll find plenty of ways to have fun, including snowboarding, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.
