Ski Area Lodging
Sunlight is one of the most unique and affordable ski resorts in Colorado. Located in the White River National Forest on Compass Mountain overlooking Mount Sopris and the Elk Mountains, Sunlight offers hundreds of acres for skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.
There are 67 trails covering over 190 hectares of terrain for all abilities, from beginner to advanced skiers and snowboarders. The renowned East Ridge has one of the most steep runs in Colorado with double black diamond terrain.
Over half of the mountain is intermediate, with many groomed cruisers like White River and Cornice, and plenty of trees to spice things up. Some of the best tree skiing in the state can be found at Sunlight.
The 67 trails offer everything from easy greens and long blues to bumps, trees, and a terrain park. The resort boasts a surprising vertical of 2,010 feet and has two lifts from the base. Each lift accesses some easy terrain and will take you high enough to access the main chair lift to the summit.
Almost every trail on the mountain has a great view and is a fun place to spend an afternoon. The quaint ski lodge at the base is also a great place to grab a bite, rent equipment or buy gear. The slopes are a short walk away from the lodge, and the crowds at Sunlight won’t be as big or as intimidating as you might find in other ski areas.
It’s a perfect place for beginners, who can practice on the beginner slopes before moving onto more challenging terrain. For those who want to get more serious, Sunlight offers lessons from experienced instructors who have the PSIA and AASI certifications.
Midweek is the ideal time to get in on the lesson action, since you’ll be able to take advantage of the Learn to Shine program, which includes 3 days of lift tickets, rentals and lessons at Sunlight for only $33 per day. It’s a great deal and will definitely help you to improve your skills on the slopes.
Another excellent value at Sunlight is the lift pass for the entire family. Including a visit to Glenwood Hot Springs Pool and lodging in one package is the perfect way to make sure your entire family has a great experience on the slopes!
This property is a charming, nostalgic and dog-friendly old ski lodge where you can wake up to beautiful views each morning while sipping coffee on the deck or in your room. The friendly staff is ready to answer your questions and help you plan a relaxing and memorable ski vacation!
