There are many great winter activities in Snowmass, Colorado. If you are thinking about going to the area for the first time, or if you are a seasoned veteran, there are plenty of activities to enjoy. For example, you could try to go skiing, or even riding a snowmobile. Or you can head to the Elk Camp for some skiing, or maybe you’d like to check out the Cross-Country Ski and Snowshoe Center.

Elk Camp

The Elk Camp in Snowmass Colorado offers numerous activities during the summer and winter. There are several hiking trails, tubing, sledding and other outdoor fun. For a full list of activities, visit the official website.

Elk Camp is a family-friendly destination in the mountains. The restaurant offers house-made seasonal options as well as organic options. A large deck allows for dining outside, and there is a large fireplace inside. In the winter, the Elk Camp Restaurant hosts Ullr Nights, a festive snow wonderland party. At the end of December, the mountain top snow tubing season begins.

In the summer, the Elk Camp Restaurant is open from 10 am to 3:30 pm. In addition to a variety of outdoor dining options, the restaurant offers a wide selection of artisan hand-tossed pizzas. It has received a LEED silver award for its sustainable merits.

Cross-Country Ski and Snowshoe Center

Aspen and Snowmass have a combined 90 kilometers of cross country ski trails. They’re maintained by the Aspen/Snowmass Nordic Council. This is the largest network of free trails in the U.S.

Located on the Aspen Public Golf Course, the Snowmass Cross-Country Ski and Snowshoe Center is a full-service Nordic center offering equipment rentals, lessons, and guided tours. It also features a retail shop and a snack bar.

The Nordic Center is open seven days a week, from 9am to 4pm in the winter months. It’s located near the Snowmass Village Market.

If you’re looking for a family-friendly adventure, try a snowshoe tour at McCoy Park. A guided adventure will take you through this scenic area of Snowmass, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Breathtaker Alpine Coaster

The Breathtaker Alpine Coaster is a thrill ride that you can enjoy during the summer and winter months at Snowmass. You’ll enjoy a thrilling ride on a 5,800 foot long cable pulled mountain coaster. Located in Aspen Snowmass, this attraction is perfect for the whole family.

The Breathtaker is located on a track that spans over a mile and is part of a $10 million on-mountain adventure center, the Lost Forest. This includes a high ropes course, zip lines, a treetop zip line, two disc golf courses, a creekside hiking trail, a fishing pond, and more.

You can get on the Breathtaker by boarding the Elk Camp Gondola from the Snowmass Base Village. A gondola ride takes 14 minutes and is included in the price of the activity pass.

Aspen Snowmass First Tracks

If you’re an intermediate skier, you’ll want to take advantage of Aspen Snowmass’ First Tracks program. This offers exclusive access to the mountain, including untouched powder. You’ll be able to ski with the pros and have a few tips along the way.

If you’re interested in a lesson, you’ll need to get in touch with the Ski & Snowboard School of Aspen Snowmass. Lessons for all ages and abilities are offered.

The mountain also has a number of other special events and activities. During the winter, you’ll have a chance to enjoy live music, tubing and ice skating. In addition, there’s a weekly nighttime celebration at Elk Camp.

For a more luxurious experience, you can book a private guided tour. This gives you priority lift access and a knowledgeable local guide.

Aspen Snowmass Rodeo Nights

For a unique cultural experience and some excellent dining options, visit Aspen Snowmass during the summer. You’ll find plenty of events and activities that the whole family will enjoy.

The Snowmass Free Concert Series is a must-see. It features some of the country’s best live bands, and the mountain backdrop will make it all the more memorable.

Another must-do is the Snowmass Rodeo. This event is held every Wednesday night from June 22 through August 18. During the rodeo, you’ll get to watch bull riding, mutton bustin’, barrel racing, and team roping. There are also mechanical bull rides and a petting zoo.

If you prefer a more low-key event, the Dinner and a Movie series is a good choice. These shows take place outside on the patio of Ajax’s Tavern.
