Skiing & Riding
Taos’ skiing and riding is among the top in North America, with 70% of its trails rated as expert-level. There are a lot of steep, challenging runs on the resort, and the mountain’s entire upper ridgeline is devoted to expert-level terrain. There are also a number of high-consequence lines, including some with chutes and cliffs, that are best tackled after a storm.
Beginner Terrain
A few areas on the backside of Lift 2 are suitable for beginners, but most of the mountain is geared towards experts. There’s a good range of green and blue trails to keep both novices and experts happy, including some bunny hills and two terrain parks: Bambi (smaller features) and Maxie (bigger features).
Staying at Taos Ski Valley
In town, there are several hotels and inns. Some of them are upscale, while others are more budget-friendly. Most of these are located in the base village, with some nestled in a hillside near the lifts.
On the mountain, there are a variety of accommodations that range from inns with spas to luxury condos. The most upscale is The Blake, located at the base of Lift 1, and featuring a heated saltwater pool for soothing post-ski relaxation.
There are also several lodges, restaurants, and bars in the village. Cid’s Mountain Market and Tenderfoot Katie’s are popular breakfast spots, and Black Diamond Coffee serves a variety of tasty Southwestern beverages.
Childcare
When it comes to skiing and snowboarding, it’s important to follow the rules of the sport. The rules include yielding at trail intersections, respecting signage, and wearing helmets. You’ll be liable if you injure someone while on the mountain, so it’s vital to understand these regulations and comply with them.
